July 2010
Congratulations to Ben Terry. Ben competed at the National Young Rider Championships, Toowoomba, June 2010 on his mount, MC Jamaica, and won the Preliminary Championship and the Novice Reserve Championship. Ben and Jamaica are an awesome team who are reaping the rewards from all of their hard work. Well done Ben!

New Stud Direction
Dressage Ponies
With the passing of Solomon, we were not too sure in what direction we were going to go next. It was during the process of searching for a larger dressage pony for our daughter, that we made the decision to breed our own ponies - ponies specifically bred for the dressage discipline.
We researched the European ponies and spoke to many Northern Hemisphere breeders and decided that Australia has the quality and base stock to breed our own super moving dressage ponies with trainability, confirmation and the most important thing of all - the temperament for young children to ride and compete on.
We were happy with our mare base -- all we needed to do was to find a suitable stallion - easier said than done!
It was by chance that we came across Weston Park Silver Sands - a 10.2 hh, Section A Welsh Mountain, Cremello Colt. He is a super little package! He has the most gorgeous looks, fantastic temperament and the most awesome ground covering movement that a little pony could produce.
We are very pleased with him and look forward to introducing to our warmblood mares!

New Dressage Pony
We have recently purchased Rosebrook Rhythm n Blues - a 5yo, 13.2 hh Riding Pony Gelding from Garry and Jackie Ryan, of Rosebrook Pony Stud, Wilberforce, NSW. Max - as he is affectionally known - has impressive, big movement and has already started to prove himself as being suitable for the dressage arena. At present he is with Rebecca Farran (of Merrigum) to make the transition from show mode to dressage performance.
His first dressage competition was at the Australian Sports Pony Dressage Championships in Werribee in July 2009. Max went on to win the Pony Preliminary Championship. His second dressage competition was the Tatura Dressage Classic at Tatura in August 2009. Max, once again, won the Pony Preliminary Championship and won Reserve Champion in the Novice Competition.
Equestrian Australia 2009 Young Rider National Dressage Competition
From Thursday 23rd July to Sunday 26th July 2009, we attended the EA Young Rider National dressage Competition held at Sydneys National Equestrian Centre. This competition is a showcase for Australia's finest dressage riders under the ages of 21 years.
Victoria had six state Dressage Squad members repesenting them at the competition - these being Ben Terry, Nicole Touzel, Emmalee Weston, Emma Copely, John Thompson and our daughter, Brianna Basile. It was a great competition with each team member achieving excellent results (see Vic. EA Newsletter). Brianna rode her pony Carisma Park Jasmine and her highlight was winning Reserve Champion in the Pony Preliminary competition.
It was a great time had by all and much of our success and enjoyment was due to the efficiency of our Chef d' Equipe - Leanne Weston. Thankyou Leanne!
2009 Hamag EV Victoria Young Rider Dressage State Championships
On the 14th - 17th April 2009, the Victorian Hamag Young Rider Dressage Championships were held at Werribee. This event had 500 competitiors that travelled with their horses and ponies from all parts of Australia. Brianna and Nathan competed against each other in the Preliminary and Novice competitions, both placing in all tests. Brianna's (and Carisma Park Jasmine)highlight was teaming up with Sophie Whitworth (and Zachariah Silver Royal) in the Pas de duex. They won this competition with an outstanding score of over 80% - well done girls!
JC Solomon
On the 25th November 2008, our beautiful Stallion, JC Solomon was put to rest. With the recent rains making the paddocks slippery, Solomon, on his usual morning run, skidded, slid under the fence and became tangled. By the time we raced to him with the wire cutters, he had managed to free himself, but unfortunately he had damaged both hind cannons so severely, that we made the agonising decision to put him down.
It has been a great loss and we certainly notice the empty space he has left behind. He was a gorgeous horse with amazing movement, temperament and character. Fortunately, we had collected and frozen semen. We have four mares in foal to him for the 2009 season.

Jaybee Amber

On another sad note, we also were confronted with the decision to put JC Solomon’s dam, Jaybee Amber, to rest. Jaybee Amber was a legend in her own right, winning numerous Supremes at the Royals and being famously sired by the great Chico D’Oro. Amber had spent the past four years in retirement, enjoying the finer things in life while working as a companion mare for our youngstock. Amber suffered from arthritis and despite treatment,it had progressed to a stage where it was kinder to put her to sleep.

2008 Foals
Happier news! We have had three new foals all sired by JC Solomon ( refer to foals 2008) So much for our 100% colour strike rate –we have had a chestnut filly, a chocolate bay colt and one palomino filly! Despite this, the majority of clients have had buckskins and palominos. Congratulations to all new foal owners!
We also decided to put a riding pony stallion over a warmblood mare to breed a future dressage pony – we chose Nasam Krackker (Lanna, Lander, BJ Kaneto Casanova, Contango) to be the dam and served her to Peter Webber’s (Kialla Park) Riding Pony Stallion, Smithsfield Rio – the result – a stunning bay filly, with amazing movement and the most gorgeous physical appearance

AWHA Foal Show

In October 2008, the AWHA held its annual Warmblood Foal Show - we decided to enter our filly, JC Halle Berry. Halle went on tho win the Yearling Filly class and received the prize for the highest scoring ISSA led exhibit! To top it off, her handler, Nathan Wilson, went on to win the best presented handler prize! This was a wonderful achievement and gives us confidence that our breeding is on the right track. JC Halle Berry has recently been sold and we congratulate her new owners and look forward to hearing of her future successes.

Our Sponsored Rider – Ben Terry
JC Farm is a proud Sponsor of an up and coming young rider, Benjamin Terry. On November 17th, Ben flew to Europe to work, train and experience the European dressage scene for three months. He is staying at Essen, in Belgium, with the Dutch B team member, Johann Rockx, and his wife Penny Zavitz, a Canadian grand prix and World Cup rider.
Ben has settled in beautifully. He has been doing the usual jobs of stable cleaning, tack polishing and feeding – but his favourite job is to ride and work some of the stables Grand Prix horses. Recently, Ben went to meet Anky – he was introduced to her and her husband, Sjef Jansen, by Geoffery Butler. He is having an amazing time and we look forward to hearing about his experiences when he arrives home in February 2009.

JC Farm Brand
All of JC farm bred horses are microchipped, but due to some societies requiring brands for registration, we have decided to also brand all of our young stock. So much thought and imagination went into creating a wonderful, spectacular brand!! After much discussion, drafting, re-discussion and re-drafting etc we finally agreed on the following!!!!!
JCF
So if you see an inch high JCF on a horses shoulder – it has been lovingly bred and handled by JC Farm.

- Isle of Tamerisk in foal to JC Solomon

Weaning
Nearly all foals have been weaned (only one to go). This has been a very enjoyable experience and each foal has been a pleasure to work with. Thanks goes to Matthew, our son, who has spent hours patting, rubbing and generally handling the foals in the paddock as they were growing with their mothers. All foals are now microchipped, insured and registered with their appropriate societies. They have all been taught to lead, tie up, float, rug, stable and wash – each foal has had its hooves trimmed since early days and are all farrier friendly!
Competition
EI brought usual competition to a halt this past season, hence we kept all warmblood palomino stock safely at home.
But once competiton did start up, our 11 yo daughter, Brianna, moved into gear and our weekends consisted of travelling to numerous shows. Her aim was to qualify for girl rider at the 2008 Melbourne Royal. Her results should achieve this – we will find out when entries are completed and acceptances notified.
One of our highlights was Brianna and her pony, Carisma Park Jasmine, winning the Champion Show Hunter Pony at the 2008 Summer Royal. Despite the awful heat and gusty wind, Brianna and Jasmine completed a beautiful workout – proud was an understatement!

Hamag Young Rider
Dressage is the favourite riding discipline of ours – this year, Brianna asked if she could begin to compete in dressage competitions, so with the encouragement of Sue and Ben Terry (Tredway Farm), we entered the Jackpot Preliminary Pony Dressage class at the 2008 Hamag Rider of the year. Brianna was looking forward to the experience and begun to learn her tests. We arrived at Werribee and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of knowing your competition times and the simplicity of the horses presentation (in comparison to the mad make-up frenzy of a show competition!). Brianna and Jasmine went on to win their first test, then their second and brought home the 2008 Hamag National Young Rider Pony Dressage Jackpot Preliminary Championship. Brianna’s class was sponsored by Ripsnorta, and the rug is lovingly placed at the end of her bed!
Congratulations must also go to Ben Terry. JC Farm is proud to sponsor Ben – he is an exceptional young rider and will surely make his name as one of Australia ’s future riding stars. Ben competed in the 2008 National Young Rider Jackpot Elementary competition and won the Championship as well as winning Reserve Champion in the Novice Competition.
It was a wonderful week – beautifully organised and a great opportunity to see the excellent standard of young dressage riders in our country.

Isle of Wight 4th Elite Youngstock Auction
On the 18th May 2008 , David Quick held his 4th Elite Youngstock Holsteiner Warmblood Auction. We have been very busy helping to organise this event. Clients travelled great distances – Japan , Tasmania , Queensland and New Zealand , to name a few. Once again, it was a wonderful day with top quality horses, great trade stalls and a fantastic working staff.
Congratulations to David Quick on the huge success of his auction. All of the horses were sold to new competition homes, with the highest priced horse selling for $37,000.00! We were excited to purchase Isle of La’mont and look forward to competing and breeding with her.

Welcome
JC Farm are proud to employ and welcome into our family, Nathan Wilson from Beechworth , Victoria . We met Nathan as a youngster at a horse show many moons ago, and with our ever increasing horse and hay workload, decided to employ someone to help, Nathan’s name was mentioned and he moved in and began work last November.
Nathan is an experienced horse handler and show rider. He is wonderful with the horses and his hard work and attention to detail has helped improve many aspects of our business. Thanks Nathan! |
